The LSF program gives young people entry to, and experience with key sustainable development organizations around the world, providing the foundation for a career in sustainable development policy and practice, and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to global sustainability.
Since 1998, IISD has placed over 400 young leaders with over 90 partner institutions in 40 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Europe and North America. The internship program has played a role in inspiring 78% of its alumni to continue working in the sustainability field. - Skills Development Training: Modules include cross cultural communications, conflict resolution, , network management, fundraising, leadership for sustainable development, teambuilding/team work, project management, facilitation skills, and tools for change.
- Internships: Hands on, international experience with leading sustainable development institutions, and exposure to relevant experts.
- Network – Our alumni program builds a long term community of peer support for participants as they take on new leadership challenges in government, business and civil society.

Program Description
The Young Leaders for a Sustainable Future (YLSF) program is undertaken within the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy, with a contribution for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). IISD has provided more than 300 young Canadians with international internships since 1997.
IISD's goal in this program is to provide young professionals with the substantive knowledge, communications skills, resources and practical experience necessary to develop international sustainable development policies and to become effective agents of change. This program will give young Canadian leaders the skills and opportunities to shape their world.
The program includes a 7 day training session in Winnipeg on building sustainable futures, a six- to eight-month international work placement and an on-line debriefing at the end of the placement.
